Tub Boat Bridge

Tub-Boat Bridge - Lightmoor

Tub-Boat Bridge - Lightmoor

This was built to carry a tramway over the Shropshire Canal.

Tub boat was the name given to a type of metal vessel that could be towed along the canal and hauled on to rails at the inclined planes. Each tub boat could carry 3-5 tons of cargo.

The small bore of the bridge, and the shallow depth of the canal, suggests that only the smallest size of Tub Boats were used.
